The video game rules and clauses remain the same as the 2011 Video Game Championship events; however, the move Dark Void is now banned, making it the first move to be banned for reasons other than a glitch. Aside from the following, all Pokémon numbered 001-646 are eligible for use:

Pidgeotto is a large raptor-like bird. While its primary color is brown, its plumage is much more elaborate than its pre-evolution, Pidgey. Its head-crest is much longer than Pidgey's and is a reddish color. The plumage of its tail is also quite colorful, alternating between red and yellow.
